The daughter of Captain Tom Moore has admitted to keeping £800,000 from three books the veteran wrote.

Captain Tom became a totemic figure of Britain’s fight against the ongoing coronavirus pandemic in 2020, with the veteran’s fundraising efforts for the NHS making him a national treasure.

On top of the £39 million he raised by doing laps around his back garden, he wrote three books as the country was plunged in and out of lockdown: Captain Tom's Life Lessons, One Hundred Steps and his autobiography Tomorrow Will Be A Good Day.

His daughter, Hannah Ingram-Moore, claimed that the veteran, who died aged 100 in 2021, told his family that he wanted them to keep the profits from Club Nook Ltd, a firm that is separate from their charity, Captain Tom Foundation.

Speaking to Piers Morgan on TalkTV, she explained: "These were my father’s books, and it was honestly such a joy for him to write them, but they were his books.

"He had an agent and they worked on that deal, and his wishes were that that money would sit in Club Nook, and in the end…"

Morgan asked: "For you to keep?" and Ingram-Moore replied "Yes. Specifically."

However, the prologue of Captain Tom’s memoir seems to imply that money raised from book sales will go to charity.

"Astonishingly at my age, with the offer to write this memoir I have also been given the chance to raise even more money for the charitable foundation now established in my name," the extract reads.

The tell-all interview, due to be broadcast today, will also see the Moore family discuss the controversial spa complex they had built on their £1.2 million Bedfordshire home.

Plans for the site said it would be used partly "in connection with The Captain Tom Foundation and its charitable objectives".

However, a subsequent retrospective application a year ago for a larger building containing a spa pool was refused by the planning authority.

While they are appealing council bosses demands to knock down the site, they have continue to assert they never took 'a penny' directly from The Captain Tom Moore Foundation for personal gain.

"We have received death threats," Ingram-Moore added. "There is a forum… they were all discussing how they were going to come and kill us all.

"The experience has been utterly devastating."
