Most runners don’t finish a marathon in under four hours, but when you and your brother carry the Vancouver Canucks to the 2011 Stanley Cup Final, anything is possible.

On Oct. 18, Daniel Sedin ran the TCS Amsterdam Marathon in just 2 hours and 57 minutes.

The former Canucks forward ran his first marathon in short amount of time compared to an average completed run.

In the over 40 year history of the TCS Amsterdam Marathon, the best time was placed last year by Lawrence Cherono from Kenya. Cherono finished the run in just two hours, four minutes, and six seconds. To play in the NHL for 17 years and then run your first marathon just 50 minutes longer than someone that has finished first in a total of eight marathons — most recently in Boston and Chicago — is outstanding.

The run goes through the city, both starting and finishing at the historic Olympic Stadium and follows a similar path to the marathon that was held in the 1928 Olympic Games.

Through 1306 games played in the NHL, Daniel Sedin scored a total of 393 goals and 1041 points. His number 22 — alongside his brother Henrik’s number 33 — will be retired by the Canucks in a week-long ceremony in February during the 2019-20 regular season.
