Few Halloween candies are more polarizing than candy corn. Some trick-or-treaters swear by the treacly confection, while others shun them completely. Well, Everyday Food editor Sarah Carey has conjured a candy corn dessert with appeal for both camps: candy corn–shaped Rice Krispies treats.
Relax, candy corn haters. There’s nary a kernel of your nemesis to be found in this dessert. It actually comprises three marshmallow-and-Rice-Krispies layers—colored with food dye that’s been spiked with orange and lemon zest—shaped into oversized “kernels” in honor of their candy inspiration.
They’re ridiculously easy to make—the most complicated part is melting store-bought marshmallows with some butter—and as Carey herself notes, “people go crazy for them.” The reason? It might be childhood nostalgia, but we bet the real explanation lies with the fact that people love gooey marshmallow anything.
