Women’s Running continues to represent runners of varying sizes. For its November/December 2016 issue, the magazine tapped model Candice Huffine as its cover model.

Though Huffine is now featured on a women’s running magazine, she said that she didn’t always think she would be able to actually get into the sport. “I was initially afraid that I would physically not be able to run. I have no idea where that notion came from, but part of me worried that because I didn’t look like a typical ‘runner’ that meant I would not be able to actually do it,” she told the magazine. “After starting I learned those fears were absolutely ridiculous! I learned that I [am] capable of anything I set my mind to and beyond that I learned that running is for everybody and every BODY. There is no perfect look, or speed, or outfit, or distance. It is whatever YOU make of it and it’s an experience that is all your own.”

In 2015, Women’s Running put plus-size model and avid runner Erica Schenk on its cover, and earlier this year, for its April issue, the magazine gave Instagram star and blogger Nadia Aboulhosn the same honor. It’s clear that Women’s Running is at least trying to represent a wider range of runners (it even featured a woman in a hijab this year) and show that you don’t have to be slim to be fit.

“Thank you @womensrunningmagazine for opening the platform to speak to all the ladies who want to start and never knew they could,” Huffine wrote in an Instagram comment. “It’s is an all-inclusive-lady-power-running party after all and we want everyone in on the fun!!!”

Huffine has joined forces with the magazine on Project Start, “an initiative to inspire all women to begin their running journey.”

Granted, there is still a lot of work left to be done in terms of body diversity and representation, but the steps Women’s Running has been taking as of late are definitely encouraging.
