Because of the NHL’s switch to Adidas for this season, just a select few teams – those involved in certain celebrations and ceremonies – will get the opportunity to shake things up from their normal day-to-day attire (and create a boost in sales in their team shop).
Pitted as combatants in the Scotiabank NHL100 Classic at Lansdowne Park on Dec. 16 as part of the league’s continuing Centennial Celebration, the Montreal Canadiens and Ottawa Senators are two of those lucky franchises. And they released those new looks today.

We’ll start with the Canadiens first, who chose wisely not to tinker too much with their legendary logo. (Its white trim has been replaced with “Stanley Cup Silver”). It does pop off the jersey, but that’s mainly because its sewn to a plain and uninterestingly white sweater that carries minimal trim, aside from the commemorative patch.
The coolest detail on the Montreal sweater is found on the silver piping on the sleeves, which has the 24 Stanley Cup seasons stitched into the fabric.
What’s interesting about the Senators’ design – which unlike the Canadiens’ is quite different – is that it might be the preferred look among fans. In lieu of their current logo, the NHL 100 sweater features the Senators’ “O” crest from their first generation and vintage looks, which is lined with the “premium silver twill.” (We suppose you need a Cup for the “Stanley Cup Silver.”) Yet, the equally simplistic design just doesn’t quite do the old throwback jerseys justice.
The silver piping on the Sens’ sleeves has the Stanley Cup seasons of the original Ottawa franchises in the design of the fabric.
