If you want to get a lot of likes on your prom pics, head to the nearest parking lot or car dealership — stat. Apparently, the hottest prom accessory for 2017 is a car: The most-liked prom pictures on Instagram feature an auto in them, according to our informal research (i.e., a lot of scrolling).
And we’re not talking about that tacky limo you took in in the early 2000s. A fresh ride in a bright color or with some crazy feature like butterfly doors is best.
When we scrolled through @promslayage2k17 and @prompic2k17’s pictures, we discovered that those featuring promgoers and a car of some sort had garnered more than 2,000 likes, while the average old-school prom pose (guy behind his date with his hands on her waist) had barely broken 200.
No matter how good you look, it seems it’s impossible to slay prom without a car, as about half of all the prom photos on these accounts have a vehicle in them. Of course, not all of these can “slay.” So here’s what we learned about how a car can boost your prom photo.
Get in the car. Those get extra likes.
Climbing up onto the automobile isn’t necessary, but if you’re up for the challenge, feel free. Everyone likes a good stunt. The photo below has 4,000 likes so far.
While a cooler car definitely gets more love, it doesn’t even have to be that fancy. One girl posed with a Volkswagen Beetle that matched her dress, and the picture got more than 1,000 likes.
It seems matching the color of the car to the dress is a big part of the equation.
Don’t have access to a car? No problem. It seems that even if the car is obviously not yours and is just driving by in the background, you’ll get more likes.
And if you think you’ll get even more attention by going above and beyond and posing with a more extreme vehicle, don’t bother. A couple who posed in front of a plane got only 74 likes, because no one likes an overachiever.
Even little-kid prom is incomplete without a dope ride, as proved by this adorable young couple dressed to the nines in front of a truck. They got more than 300 likes.
Happy car shopping, er … we mean prom!
