Camila Cabello Said She Avoided Talking About Her Relationship to Shawn Due to Public Reaction
Camila Cabello opened up about why she kept her relationship with Shawn Mendes a secret for so long.
The couple first got together in July, but did not publicly reveal their relationship until much later.
Camila also opened up about her collaboration, "Señorita", and why she was hesitant to do it at first.
While Shamila shippers know that Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes have been dating a lot longer than they originally let on, there's a good reason why they weren't so open about their relationship at first.
In a new interview with the Los Angeles Times, Camila opened up about her relationship and the real reason why they kept things under wraps before revealing that they were dating.
"I guess I was avoiding it, yeah," she said. "I mean, I don't call him Shawn Mendes, you know? I call him pet names that I'm not gonna say in this interview. But I feel like when I say his name, it's just contributing to the pop-culture circus."
She also noted that people can sometimes forget that their relationship is real and not just for show.
"As soon as I do it [say his name], I can hear the screams and I'm like, 'No, no, no, you're not hearing what I'm trying to say.' I'm not talking about it as some Twitter thing. That's my boyfriend. This is real."
She also talked about how, despite the fact that she didn't want to do another latin-inspired song so soon after Havana, Shawn managed to convince her to do "Señorita" with him.
"Shawn texted me the idea for the song, and for a while I wasn't sure if I wanted to do it. I had no context for where the song fit for me artistically." she said. "We're just two kids in love. I thought, You know what? He and I singing together sound great. I'm not gonna overthink this."
Looks like they made the right decision as they are not nominated for a Grammy for the song and have won several other awards for it. Guess Shawn had the right idea after all.
