Camila Cabello Detailed How She Decided to Record “Señorita” With Shawn Mendes

It's officially safe to say that "Señorita" is one of the hottest songs of the summer. The collaborative track between Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes is a major success, but as Camila revealed, she wasn't always sure she wanted to do the duet.

In a behind the scenes video from Vogue of Camila's 2019 MTV Video Music Award prep, the Fifth Harmony member revealed she had some hesitation when Shawn approached her about the project. “I thought it was super cool and it was a few months of back and forth, but I literally lost sleep over it because I was like, ‘My God, I think I do want to do it — maybe I don’t,'" she says in the clip.

Camila went on to detail how the two decided to just figure it out in the studio, and then a week and a half after they recorded the single, the duo collaborated on the video. And with that, the rest was history.

On top of the release of their single, Camila and Shawn became the center of celebrity gossip for the chemistry displayed in the clip and IRL. When the video was released in June, fans speculated that it was confirmation of a possible romantic relationship, and the two were later spotted frequently together, even engaging in reported PDA. The duo have not yet addressed the rumors or confirmed the speculation of an alleged relationship, but Camila did share her love for Shawn in an Instagram post tied to his birthday.

In addition to a rumored Blink 182 date night and cute Instagram posts, the status of their reported relationship garnered additional attention with their first live performance of "Señorita" at the VMAs. Although there was no kissing, there was plenty of romance, and even Joe Jonas looked to be a fan of the track. Ultimately, we'll have to wait and see whether Camila and Shawn do decide to address any of the recent speculation, but in the meantime, we should all just be grateful that Camila decided to record "Señorita." We can't even imagine summer 2019 without that track.
