Calling All 'Golden Girls' Fans: Here's What Happened to Blanche's House
When The Golden Girls first episode premiered in 1985, the creators, actors, and viewers weren't aware of the impact the '80s sitcom would have. More than three decades later, fans continue to identify themselves as being a "Blanche," a "Dorothy," a "Rose," or a "Sophia," while quoting iconic scenes. But when it comes to the home where the four women transitioned from strangers-slash-roommates to family — all in the confines of a kitchen — there's an underlying rich history of the home.

Who did The Golden Girls house belong to?
In the '80s sitcom, The Golden Girls house was originally owned by Southern belle Blanche Devereaux. After growing up in the suburbs of Atlanta, the mother-of-six moved to Miami with her husband, George. But it wasn’t until his death that Blanche began her search for roommates.
Dorothy and Rose were responded to an ad posted by Blanche in a grocery store. Sophia, Dorothy’s 80-year-old mother soon joined them after the retirement home she was living in burned down. From then on, viewers regularly watched the four women gather around in the kitchen for seven seasons, living life together under one roof.
Where is The Golden Girls house located?
The Golden Girls house was said to be at 6151 Richmond Street in Miami, but in reality, no such address exists. For Season 1, exterior shots of Blanche’s house were filmed at a Los Angeles home located at 245 N. Saltair Ave. in Brentwood. But the show was never actually filmed inside the house, giving creators the opportunity to come up with an original floor plan of the home — explaining the entrances and exits that didn't always make sense.
The 2,901-square-foot house still stands today, with four bedrooms and four baths, according to Trulia.com. Currently, this California property, surrounded by lush greenery, has an estimated value of $3.5 million.

From Season 2 and onward, filming of exterior shots of The Golden Girls house were done on a set in Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando. A replica of the Brentwood home’s façade was built on Disney’s “Residential Street,” where it could be viewed during the Studio Backlot Tour. But in 2003, The Golden Girls house was demolished, along with the rest of the street, making space for new projects.
Can I visit The Golden Girls house?
Although Golden Girls viewers can pass by the recognizable Brentwood house and take a quick picture, fans aren't actually able to step inside the house because it's a private residence. And, unfortunately, with the replica gone for almost two decades, it also can't be a travel destination.
