This California Hotel Is Offering Guests a Night Stay for $5 Plus a Free Bottle of Wine

From House Beautiful

In honor of its 100th anniversary, Hotel Atwater in California is offering rooms at a rate of just under $5 a night–the price of a night’s stay in 1920 when the hotel first opened. Oh, and you’ll receive a bottle of wine upon arrival to kick off the vacay. What more could you want?

The historic hotel is located on Catalina Island, which is about one hour away by ferry or a short helicopter from the coast of Los Angeles. It boasts “all the class of the roaring ‘20s with all the modern comforts and conveniences you’ve come to expect,” according to its website.

The limited-time offer of $4.98 a night is available for the first 100 people who book a trip. It’s valid for Sunday through Thursday stays in July with a two-night minimum. Unfortunately, the $4.98 rate only applies to the first night. The second night is charged at the best available current-day rate. That’s still quite the steal, though!

The hotel features “Island Deco” decor that’s inspired by the hotel’s namesake Helen Atwater Wrigley, wife of the famous chewing gum manufacturer Philip Knight Wrigley. She “adored her prized carnations and a nightly glass of champagne,” according to the hotel, aka she’s the inspiration behind the free bottle of wine guests receive through this offer.

If you’re looking to take a short, relatively inexpensive trip, this might be the one to go on. Bookings can only be made by calling the hotel–not online–at 877-778-8322. As the hotel says, “an opportunity like this only comes around once in a century.” Why not go for it?
