‘These Are All Cake’ Videos Are the Latest Viral Trend—And People Have Thoughts

Cake videos have completely taken over my social media feeds, and likely yours too.

But in case you’ve missed the latest viral video trend to sweep the nation, here’s why everybody is talking about cake. On July 8, BuzzFeed’s Tasty Twitter posted a video with the simple caption, “These are all cakes.” The video shows people cutting into what appear to be everyday objects—Crocs, toilet paper, a bottle of lotion, burgers and vegetables, a houseplant—revealing that every single one was a cake decorated with fondant.

The video then went on to show how methodically the cakes are decorated with said fondant. It’s wild how much you can make a cake look just like an IRL banana or a shoe, but it’s happening, people. The video has already racked up over 30 million views.

Soon enough, Twitter feeds were flooded with more examples of cakes disguised as unexpected things.

“I’ve made A LOT of realistic food cakes over the past year! They are great for trying out new techniques. You can see how I made all of these cakes at http://Youtube.com/SideserfCakeStudio…. If you’re subscribed to my YouTube channel, I just want to say I love you,” YouTuber Natalie Sideserf tweeted.

I’m not going to lie, Sideserf’s bulldog video really messed with my head.

And of course, there are memes and hilarious commentary. “All these cake videos are making me paranoid rn what if I’m a cake and I don’t even know it?” one person tweeted. “Believe it or not these are all cakes,” another wrote, alongside photos of…regular cakes.

This has been a strange, strange year, so I really shouldn’t be surprised that it’s come to the point where we’re all wondering what is cake and what is not. This is just the world we live in now.
