Darkfest is a freeride event in South Africa that kicks off the season and features enormous jumps. In about two weeks, the freeride world will congregate in Stellenbosch to ride the conic jumps.
On January 14, 2024, Sam Reynolds began the process of getting the jumps ready for Darkfest.
Though Reynolds does not have to rebuild the jumps from scratch, he lives all the way in the UK and does not maintain them year-round. This means that a winter of rain certainly damaged the lips.
As you can see, Reynolds covered the jumps with tarps, but nothing can be perfect at preserving them. Thankfully, the line needs only tweaking.
Thankfully, Reynolds is there to get these enormous jumps rolling again. Lips that big require a lot of precision and building skill. Thankfully, Reynolds is the best in the biz. He and his crew just have to avoid the many snakes they heard rustling around in the grass.
Darkfest is scheduled to happen from February 3rd through February 10th, 2024. Last year’s edition saw a lot of exciting action, including Tom Isted’s World Record Backflip.
Stay tuned for more coverage of Darkfest.
