Bucks get two consecutive dunks blocked ... by the rim

The Milwaukee Bucks’ worst enemy Thursday night may not have been their opponent. During Thursday night’s contest against the Minnesota Timberwolves, the two had two consecutive dunks blocked, but not in the way you might think.

You see, the ball wasn’t blocked by an opposing player who hustled down the court to make two great plays. It was blocked by the rim.

Yeah, an inanimate object prevented the Bucks from scoring twice. This tends to happen from time to time. But the fact that the rim blocked two consecutive dunk attempts is what really stands out here.

With just a little over four minutes to go in the second quarter, Khris Middleton became the rim’s first victim. His fast break dunk attempt comes up just short, hitting the front of the rim and feebly bouncing back to the floor.

Roughly 25 seconds later, Eric Bledsoe tries to loft an alley-oop to Thon Maker. His attempt goes a little too far, and is rejected by a different side of the rim.

While it was still early in the game, both misses may have played a significant role in the contest. The Bucks were trailing by 10 points at the time of each dunk. Had they made both, suddenly the lead is down to six points.

Maybe it wouldn’t have mattered, as the Timberwolves kept the pressure on during the third quarter. Still, it stings to miss easy points on two straight plays … especially when you have no one to blame but yourself.
