When it comes to musical acts that have seemingly taken the world over, it's hard to remember a group as dominant and ever-present as BTS. And while their newest single, "Dynamite" might have been their first to capture the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100, make no mistake—BTS has been on a near-decade-long journey to dominate the global pop music scene. A big part of that dominance comes from connecting with fans on a deeply personal level and giving them something to believe in, which is what the band hopes to do with their newly released album, BE.

In Esquire's winter cover story, RM tells us that, "‘Dynamite’ wouldn’t be here if there was no COVID-19. For this song, we wanted to go easy and simple and positive. Not some, like, deep vibes or shadows.” "Dynamite" has been the perfect conduit to conquer American audiences; it was released in part as a balm to the COVID-19 crisis and the track is nothing but fun. Yeah, the dancing may have to happen exclusively in your living room, it's the catchy first single from BE, the band's upcoming album.

But promoting BE in the face of a global pandemic is difficult. Fans had been anxiously awaiting the album since the band hinted at its conception in early spring of 2020. But one thing is practically certain: with the explosive States-side success of "Dynamite," BE is slated to be the group's biggest release to date. And in predictably charming style, Jin says this album is all about good vibes. "We were trying to convey the message of healing and comfort to our fans. World domination wasn’t actually our plan when we were releasing ‘Dynamite,’" he says.

All of that is to say, there's more good vibes where "Dynamite" came from. The group's lead single, released the same day as the album this past Friday, is "Life Goes On," and if there's one good mantra to keep in mind as a dreadful 2020 comes to a close, it's that. Push on through, ARMY.
