More details about BTS and their upcoming Tonight Show appearance are here, and we're in for a doozy, ARMY.
Per Rolling Stone, BTS will take over The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in an episode airing February 24 — three days after the release of their comeback album, Map of the Soul: 7 — and this episode has everything. In addition to an interview featuring fan questions, Jimmy Fallon took BTS on a tour of New York City, where the show films. “We wanted to do something special for BTS and, at the same time, celebrate New York City,” Fallon said in a press release. “BTS really knocked it out of the park. You’re not going to believe how big and fun their performance is — they took over Grand Central Terminal.”
It definitely seems like Jimmy Fallon is pulling out all the stops for the takeover episode, which will be the second time BTS has appeared on The Tonight Show, following a 2018 interview and performance of hits “I’m Fine” and “Idol.” The previously teased fan interview segment apparently happens on none other than the New York City subway, so the seven members of Bangtan truly got the full NYC experience (likely complete with delays due to train traffic ahead of us). As popular BTS fan and translation account @modooborahae pointed out, it's also very possible they took the aptly named seven train, which stops at Grand Central, has a purple circle logo, and would be the obvious choice to promote an album literally called Map of the Soul: 7. It's fate. It's destiny.
They even went to the famed Katz's Deli for pastrami, and there will likely be more stops since "Fallon and the group visit iconic local spots over the hour," according to the release. Show producer Gavin Purcell also tweeted that they'll play a "new game played tournament style! (one v one)!" And if the reaction to James Corden's game of hide-and-seek with BTS was any indication (and, like, every Run! BTS episode ever), the fans love a good BTS-centric game.
We're not entirely sure how BTS managed to take over Grand Central Terminal with nobody noticing or leaking intel, but per Purcell's tweet, the moment will be a "GIANT performance!" Rolling Stone reports that they'll also perform their "brand-new song," so will that be the official comeback single stage? Will they perform any throwback hits? We have so many questions already. Luckily, we'll finally have some answers come February 24, when BTS on Fallon goes from dreams to TV screen reality.
“In terms of the production side, this [episode] was a pretty heavy lift," Purcell told Rolling Stone. "I can’t tell you how many people went into the making of this — it was the entire staff rallying together to make this really cool show. And on the BTS side, it was amazing to see how they rallied and how hard they worked. That’s something their fans know, but not only are they incredibly talented, they’re also so hardworking and humble.”
