BTS Shut Down the 2019 Mnet Asian Music Awards in Celine

Last night BTS attended the 2019 Mnet Asian Music Awards in Nagoya, Japan. The K-pop group—consisting of band members V, Jungkook, Jin, Jimin, Suga, RM, and J-Hope—took to the stage to close the show, performing a medley of their biggest hits. They also picked up nine awards at the ceremony, including song of the year (for “Boy With Luv”) and artist of the year.

Shortly before performing, BTS stormed the red carpet in outfits that proved to be a departure from their usual streetwear-minded looks (which generally include tons of Gucci). The seven members embraced their new role as muses to designer Hedi Slimane, wearing his rock-and-roll-inspired Celine creations in their own distinctive ways. It’s a choice that makes sense: The pop stars are fans of Saint Laurent, a house that Slimane helmed for several years before Anthony Vaccarello took the reins in 2016.

Each member of the group played to his style strengths while maintaining an overall aesthetic that was entirely cohesive and complementary on the red carpet. Denim proved to be the common thread: RM wore an acid-wash denim jacket with khakis and a brimmed hat; Jin and V did classic jeans with a structured blazer. There were loads of statement outerwear too: J-Hope wore a metallic bomber jacket and Jimin a satiny gold one; Jungkook chose a double-breasted animal-print topcoat; Suga a snakeskin-effect zip-up. Consider it another win on BTS’s already long list of major red-carpet moments.
