BTS Member Jin Asked Fans to Let Him Use His Own Name in MapleStory

Soul-stirring music, the best fandom, impeccable red carpet style, a TikTok account… there’s no doubt BTS has almost everything. But there’s one tiny thing one of the members is longing for at the moment, and he’s kindly asking ARMYs for support.

On March 12, Jin took to Weverse to issue a public call to ARMYs: please help him get his desired nickname on MapleStory. Responding to a fan who had some regrets about their own nickname and village choice on Animal Crossing, Jin took the opportunity to express his desire for a nickname change on his preferred game.

“Every time I play Maple[Story], I also wonder why I didn’t make my nickname ‘BTS’ ... Whoever has the nickname ‘BTSJin’, please please give it to me,” Jin wrote, according to a translation by @doyou_bangtan. He then added a second response, pleading for at least another nickname.”Please please at least give me ‘Seok-ji-nie’; it looks as if you don’t play anyway,” he wrote.

In case you don’t know, MapleStory is a free MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) owned by Nexon. It was developed by South Korea’s Wizet back in 2003 and has since grown massively popular around the world. There are some newer versions of the game, all featuring its basic side-scrolling play mode, and it is available both on mobile and desktop.

Jin’s history with MapleStory has been well-documented over the years and, well, to put it bluntly, he’s basically obsessed with the game — despite the many frustrations it sometimes gives him. As he himself revealed on VLIVE, he has been playing the game for way over a decade now — having started when he was just 12 years old.

In the past, he has name-dropped the game more than a few times on social media. He spent his birthday on 2018 playing the game live with fans (and documented the whole process over on VLIVE) — but it looks like his Maple journey from now won’t be as sweet unless he gets that ID.

Jin isn’t the only BTS member discussing games with ARMYs as of late. V, whose real name is Kim Taehyung, has also made it his mission to connect with ARMYs via gaming (though without nickname requests so far).

Jin might have a soft spot for MapleStory but Tae takes things multi-platform more often than not, often favoring MOBA style games (multiplayer online battle arena). He’s so far played (or teased to play) games such as PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, League of Legends, and Overwatch with fans.

Whether Jin gets his nickname or not, one thing is certain: BTS won’t stop playing games any time soon. Gamer ARMYs, rejoice!
