It’s BTS member Jungkook’s birthday and the whole world knows it. As the clocks struck midnight on September 1 on Korean soil, ARMYs worldwide assembled to celebrate Jungkook’s 22nd birthday (23rd following Korean age reckoning).
From video tributes and fanart to charity events and literally making over entire subway lines, ARMYs all over the world have taken over (and perhaps even broken) Twitter to wish BTS’s youngest member a happy birthday.
Just minutes into Jungkook’s birthday, hashtags such as #HappyBirthdayJungkook, #GoldenJungkookDay, #HappyJungkookDay, and #1stSeptemberMiracle were all trending on Twitter. In fact, out of the top 30 trending topics worldwide, more than half were JK-related.
“Happy Birthday to our Golden Maknae! Thank you for all the passion, kindness, and joy you give us,” a fan shared on Twitter. “Happy 22nd birthday to Jeon Jungkook, that was born to be talented, amazing, successful, sweetest, kind and warmhearted person ever. The world wouldn’t be the same without him,” another one wrote.
With the hashtag #Euphoria50M — which, of course, was also trending — ARMYs also set out to make Jungkook’s Love Yourself 結 ‘Answer’ solo track, “Euphoria,” reach 50 million views on YouTube in time for his bday — a task which, of course, they completed.
But ARMYs aren’t the only ones celebrating on Twitter. BTS’s golden maknae also got birthday wishes from his hyungs — including Jin, Suga, RM, and J-Hope — who shared heartfelt messages, photos and videos to commemorate the occasion. Even Big Hit’s BTS official Twitter account joined in on the fun with a short video edit.
Jungkook himself also had a gift for the fans. After seeing everything ARMYs had been doing in his name, he took to Weverse, to thank fans for all the birthday wishes and hint at a surprise.
“If our ARMYs didn't exist, I wouldn't be as happy as I am on a day like today,” JK wrote according to a fan translation account. “I searched up all the things that you did for me; thank you so much...There really were so many. Honestly, that I would receive well wishes from so many people (from my beloved ARMYs) is something that still amazes me, and sometimes doesn't feel real.”
Jungkook also pointed out he usually uploads a cover song on his birthday but, unfortunately, he wasn’t able to make one this year. Instead, however, he unveiled a new short original song (sung entirely in English) on the group’s Twitter.
“THE SONG JUNGKOOK WAS SINGING WASNT A COVER, IT WAS AN ORIGINAL....an original....I AM CRYINGDJNDHD #HappyBirthdayJungkook,” an ARMY commented alongside a very memeable clip of V after hearing the emotional song. “Dear bighit jeon jungkook, YOU JUST DROPPED AN ORIGINAL SONG IN YOUR BIRTHDAY, WITH ENGLISH LYRICS AND AN AMAZING VOICE. HOW DO YOU EXPECT TWITTER TO CALM DOWN??? WE AIN'T SLEEPING ON THIS BABY BOY,” another added.
There’s no doubt: today is all about Jungkook but his birthday has literally just begun and we’re sure celebrations won’t stop here. Happy birthday, JK!
