BTS might be enjoying an “official and extended period of rest and relaxation” — according to BigHit — but that doesn’t mean ARMYs are necessarily vacationing, as the latest meme to come out the fandom perfectly proves.
This past wekeend, ARMYs brought out the meme-making artillery and started populating Twitter with V’s “crazy for myself” verse off Map of the Soul: Persona’s “HOME” — shortly after, they made the words "CRAZY FOR MYSELF" (yup, all caps) trending worldwide on Twitter.
The meme came barging into ARMYs timelines — quite literally — and soon the worlds of the Bangtan boys and the likes of Peppa Pig, Harry Potter, meme king SpongeBob, and even Minecraft collided. “Crazy for myself but for the minecraft enthusiasts,” someone posted using the meme-formula alongside a very impressive Minecraft rendering of V’s comeback concept photo.
“Bts has been gone for barely more than a week and armys have f*cking lost it, we are going crazy... FOR MYSELF,” an ARMY posted after seeing their timeline flooded with the edits. “Armys logging on this app to see a tons [sic] of crazy for myself edits out of nowhere,” another one added, rightfully illustrating their cause with, you guessed it, the meme itself.
“Me coming to Twitter after being gone for FIVE F*CKING MINUTES and hearing CRAZY FOR MYSELF on EVERY VIDEO I CLICK ON . I CANT WITH YALL I-,” an ARMY commented after the meme-avalanche started rolling. “If i see bright blue haired taehyung singing crazy for myself in the corner of my room during sleep paralysis im blaming ALL OF YOU,” another one added.
No one quite knows the genesis of the meme, but clues do point to BTS member Jeon Jungkook as the culprit (or mastermind?) behind it all. “Everyone clowning 'crazy for myself' but forget the ORIGINAL clowner himself jeon jungkook,” an ARMY jokingly pointed out on Twitter alongside some pretty conclusive evidence.
One thing is for sure, the “crazy for myself” memes have indisputably become ARMYs' latest inside joke and while some are still trying to decipher its meaning, others just can’t get enough of it and are enjoying the ride.
While we might never know the whole origin, we’ll happily consume all the memes until BTS’s next comeback — it's so hot, ARMY, because of you.
