Exalting traditions to develop an appealing collection for today’s consumer was Brunello Cucinelli’s intention for fall. The designer presented his latest men’s collection digitally via a Zoom call from the brand’s showroom in Solomeo, which was set up to resemble the label’s high-end booth at Pitti Uomo, where Cucinelli traditionally unveils its lineups.

Tradition means knitwear for the luxury fashion house and knitwear definitely played a key role in the collection, which was mainly focused on light, powdery tones. Sweaters cut in different shapes and crafted through a variety of techniques were matched with slightly high-waisted pants coming in comfortable silhouettes. Knitwear also inspired the outerwear offering, which included luxurious cashmere puffers offering a balance between elegance and practicality.

Cucinelli also delivered a range of impeccable suits to wear with knit sweaters, including a cashmere crewneck enriched with an intarsia saying, “Build your journey,” as well as with denim shirts. But the designer conceived the tailoring to be easily split up for ultimate versatility. “You can take the suit, split that up and wear the blazer with other pants and the pants with a sweater maybe,” said Cucinelli, highlighting that he wanted to inject a sense of freedom and fun in the collection. “I think that when the pandemic is finally over, everybody will want to dress up again, enjoying the pleasure of feeling and looking good.”

The health emergency pushed almost everyone to revise their habits, but if there is anything that remained steadfast, it’s Cucinelli’s style: that sense of luxurious yet effortless elegance that blends the relaxed and the comfortable — two words that are so key now, but that the Italian designer chose to define his aesthetic long ago.
