Brother of Humboldt crash victim shares dreams beyond hockey
Those who lost their lives in the horrific Humboldt Broncos bus accident on Friday night were more than just hockey players, coaches and play-by-play announcers. They were husbands, sons, brothers and young men with dreams of many things in life.
For Stephen Wack, the 21-year-old defenceman from St. Albert who died along with 14 others when a truck collided with the bus carrying his junior hockey team to a playoff game in northeastern Saskatchewan, his second passion was videography.
On Saturday evening, as hockey fans across the country sat down to take in the closing stages of the NHL regular season, Stephen’s little brother wanted people to know about his big sibling’s talents off the ice.

Stephen’s video, titled My Year 2017 (Same Kolder inspired), was shown on CBC Alberta on Saturday night and the original work has now been viewed more than 35,000 times on YouTube. It was published less than three weeks before Stephen’s tragic death.
In a later tweet, Justin shared more about his multi-talented brother.
Stephen was the best big brother I could ever ask for. He was always the most selfless, modest, and humble person imaginable. The support around the hockey community means so much.
Wack joined the Broncos organization in 2016 and was weeks away from wrapping up his junior career and pursing a career in video design.
Sadly, we won’t know what Stephen may have become but he left us with a slice of inspiration.
