Brody Jenner and Kaitlynn Carter Are Separating After One Year of Marriage

The rest is still unwritten for Brody Jenner and his wife Kaitlynn Carter, who are reportedly splitting after one year of marriage.

The separation was confirmed by the couple, whose reps released a statement to E! News on Friday, August 2. "Brody Jenner & Kaitlynn Carter have decided to amicably separate,” the statement read. “They love and respect one another, and know that this is the best decision for their relationship moving forward.”

However, the The Hills: New Beginnings stars may not have been actually married at all. TMZ reports that Brody and Kaitlynn’s wedding ceremony in Indonesia on June 2, 2018 wasn’t legally recognized in the United States as the couple didn’t have a valid marriage license.

Both Kaitlynn, 30, and Brody, 35, were stars of MTV’s rebooted The Hills: New Beginnings, with Brody returning to his role as the alpha male of the often-dramatic, always entertaining group of friends and frenemies, which includes Brody’s former BFF Spencer Pratt and his wife Heidi. Brody was the romantic lead in the first installment of the series, briefly “dating” both Lauren Conrad and Kristin Cavallari onscreen.

The reality star later met Kaitlynn in 2013, proposed in 2016, and the two threw a big wedding in Indonesia two years later. (It was reported that Kendall and Kylie, Brody’s half-sisters, didn’t even RSVP to the gathering.) The wedding was also a sore spot for Spencer, whose hard feelings towards his former bestie over not being invited was a major plot point on this season of The Hills.

Kaitlynn and Brody’s relationship challenges were also featured prominently on The Hills, with scenes depicting stress in their marriage over Brody’s party-hopping lifestyle, his late nights out, and the loss of their home in Malibu after the California wildfires. We’re not sure if we’ll get to see the end of their marriage play out on season two of New Beginnings, but we wish both Brody and Kaitlynn the best.
