Britney Spears has doubled down on her stance against the documentaries being made about the public's sexist, cruel treatment of her from the very start of her career—pointing out that they are re-traumatizing. “These documentaries are so hypocritical … they criticize the media and then do the same thing 🤔🤔🤔?????” she wrote. “Damn … I don’t know y’all but I’m thrilled to remind you all that although I've had some pretty tough times in my life ... I've had waaaayyyy more amazing times in my life.”

Framing Britney Spears is just the first of several documentaries set to come out exploring the topic. The second big documentary, the BBC's The Battle for Britney: Fans, Cash and a Conservatorship, was released this week. Spears' post appears to be a reaction to its release, although she does not name the documentary explicitly.

Spears also called out her former makeup artist Billy Brasfield, who claimed to Page Six that Spears wasn't in control of her Instagram posts. She wrote, “I don’t actually talk to Billy B AT ALL so I’m honestly very confused 😂😂😂”

Spears shared a dancing video alongside her caption, which is pretty standard for a Britney Spears Instagram post. The singer wrote in full:

Geez !!!!

2021 is definitely way better than 2020 but I never knew it was gonna be like THIS 😳😳😳 !!!! So many documentaries about me this year with other people's takes on my life ... what can I say … I’m deeply flattered !!!! Spears previously spoke out about Framing Britney Spears at the end of March. She revealed that she watched part of the documentary. I didn't watch the documentary but from what I did see of it I was embarrassed by the light they put me in,” she wrote. “I cried for two weeks and well .... I still cry sometimes !!!!”

Some fans have been skeptical that Spears, who remains in a conservatorship (where her personal and financial decisions are made by others), is fully writing her posts. Spears' father is currently a conservator, but she is trying to have him removed in court. Spears will be speaking to the court on June 23 about the “status of the conservatorship,” according to Variety.

Spears' social media manager Cassie Petrey spoke out in February about how much editorial control Spears has over her Instagram, insisting that Spears is creating all her content.

Petrey wrote on Instagram: “Britney creates her own posts and writes her own captions for Instagram. She finds the google images, pinterest images, quotes, memes, and everything else herself. Nobody is suggesting any of that stuff to her. She generally edits the videos herself. If a video she sends in is edited by her social media team, it's because she gave specific instructions and asked for it to be edited that way. Then she sees it and decides if she wants to post it or not.”

She continued: “She has stated many times that she creates the posts, but people continue to believe conspiracy theories over what Britney says over and over again. Britney is not ‘asking for help’ or leaving secret messages in her social media. She is literally just living life and trying to have fun on instagram. She has a team to help strategize, like any major celebrity generally does at this point in her career. Almost every person has a social media team—just like they have a manager, publicist, record label, etc.”

Petrey added, “My work on Britney's social media does not involve her conservatorship in any way. That's a court and lawyer thing. Since when do digital marketing people have anything to do with things that courts and lawyers handle?”
