Britney Spears' former childhood friend turned husband has been charged after trying to "crash" her wedding to Sam Asghari, which took place at the couple's home in Los Angeles on 9 June.

For those who don't remember, in 2004 Spears infamously wed her long-time pal Jason Alexander, although their marriage was annulled – a legal procedure declaring a marriage null and void – just 55 hours later.

But now, nearly twenty years on, Spears' path has once again crossed with her ex as he filmed an Instagram Live just hours before her nuptials to tell his followers he was going to "crash" the singer's wedding. During the live stream, TMZ reports that Alexander approached the event's security and told them he had been invited before a physical struggle ensued.

Police officers then responded to an incident of trespassing at Spears' address – where the intimate ceremony was taking place – and arrested her ex. Since then, Alexander has been was charged with two counts of misdemeanour battery, one count of misdemeanour vandalism and one count of misdemeanour trespassing following the incident, Ventura County Sheriff's Department confirmed.

"He was able to find his way onto the property and was confronted by security," Sergeant Cyrus Zadeh told PA News, going on to explain the charges made against Alexander. "An altercation occurred with the security officers and that’s where the battery occurred… and during the altercation an item was broken so that’s where the vandalism comes into play. And by being on private property, the trespass comes into play."

Meanwhile, Asghari's representative, Brandon Cohen, spoke of the couple's excitement at finally being wed. "I am very ecstatic this day has come, and they are married," he said. "I know [he] wanted this for so long. He is so caring and supportive every step of the way."

The intimate ceremony is believed to have been attended by 60 of Spears and Asghari's close friends, with the guest-list including the likes of Donatella Versace and Spears' brother, Ryan. However, other members of the singer's family, such as her parents and her sister, Jamie-Lyne, were not at the event – which comes just months after she was freed from a 13 year conservatorship which allowed her father, Jamie Spears, to control her freedom and finances.

We're sending BIG congratulations to the happy couple. Britney and Sam forevs!
