Netflix has dropped the trailer for All the Bright Places, aka your next favorite drama, and it’s filled with all the wonders of a coming-of-age tale.
On Thursday, February 6, the first trailer for the movie All the Bright Places was released and, trust me, it’ll get you right in the feels. The movie is based on the international best-selling Y.A. novel of the same name by Jennifer Niven and stars Elle Fanning as Violet Markey, a popular teen who has survivor’s guilt after her sister’s death, and Justice Smith as Theodore Finch, a struggling student who experiences depression and has bipolar disorder.
All the Bright Places will start streaming on Netflix on February 28, but the trailer has enough glimpses of Violet and Finch’s love story to hold you over until the movie premieres. The trailer introduces Violet through Finch’s eyes when he’s caught gazing at her a little too long. We see how Violet has become emotionally withdrawn after Eleanor’s death, and soon, the trailer shows Finch and Violet getting paired together for a class project on the “wonders of Indiana.”
Violet is reluctant to work on the project with Finch, but she’s encouraged by both her mom and Finch himself to put herself out there again. “I think it would be good for you to get out. You might end up loving it,” he tells her, before pointing out they only need “two wonders” for the project. The trailer soon reveals that Violet and Finch start to form a sweet bond, which leads to scenic Indiana hikes, dancing together in a field, and a van filled with flowers.
But soon, Violet notices Finch is missing from school and he isn’t responding to her texts. “I just get a little lost sometimes,” Finch tells her, describing his experience with depression. It becomes clear, though, from how the trailer ends, that Violet and Finch will have many obstacles, but the wonder of their love might just prevail after all.
