A batch of popcorn manufactured by Bickel's Snack Foods, Inc. is being voluntarily recalled due to an undeclared allergen as a result of a labeling error. The recalled popcorn items are exclusively sold at Publix supermarkets and the particular batch reached stores located in Georgia and North Carolina.

The Food and Drug Administration announced a recall yesterday that included all of the information regarding UPC codes and use by dates labeled on the items in question. One specific lot of Bickel's Snack Foods' eight-ounce packages of butter-flavored popcorn are part of the recall because they were labeled as butter flavor when the popcorn inside was actually the brand's cheddar flavor.

This labeling error means the cheddar popcorn packages did not declare that milk was used in the recipe. Milk is one of the big eight allergens, meaning this mislabeling could lead to serious allergic reactions in some buyers that were unaware of the ingredient's inclusion. At the time of publication, the FDA confirmed in their release that no adverse affects or illness connected to this recall have been brought to their attention.

If you happen to have a Bickel's Snack Foods popcorn package in your possession, keep an eye out for UPC code 70175 06021 and a "use by" date of March 29, 2021. As always with this sort of recall, you should not consume the product and can return it to the Publix grocery store you purchased it from for a full refund.
