Man, football is a weird game.
Washington is, by any objective measure, one of the worst teams in the league, an utter and catastrophic mess from the owner's box on down to the field. And yet on Sunday, the team rallied behind the virtuoso performance of its quarterback to post a stunning 47-14 stomping of the New Orleans Saints.
Cousins' line: 20 for 25 for 324 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions. That's good enough for a perfect 158.3 passer rating. (Yes, "158.3" is perfect. Just go with it.) He's the third quarterback this season to post such a rating, after Miami's Ryan Tannehill in October and Tennessee's Marcus Mariota in the season's opening week.
Granted, this was a terrible Saints defense Cousins was facing. Still, Cousins deserves plenty of credit, considering both the circus that is his team as well as the drama that surrounded his starting job at the beginning of the season. So, Kirk, once more with feeling:
