The Boys is packed with horror and darkness, but one element of the superhero drama that horrified the show's cast more than anything else was a particularly realistic prosthetic attached to one of the stars.

Actors Chace Crawford (The Deep), Antony Starr (Homelander), Jack Quaid (Hughie Campbell), Karen Fukuhara (Kimiko) and Erin Moriarty (Starlight) led a The Boys panel at New York Comic-Con and they were all rather creeped out by a fake chest that Crawford has to wear as his character, reports Insider.

Fans may recall the disturbing scene in season one in which The Deep is assaulted by a woman he brings home as she forcefully touches the gills that he has on his chest, with the gills making another appearance in season two as Deep hallucinates that they are speaking to him.

The prosthetic chest that actor Crawford had to wear in his shirtless scenes is a replica of his real torso, with air pumps fitted in the fake chest to make the gills move.

Explaining his relationship with this odd prop, Quaid said: "They built a prosthetic chest for that scene and every day for like, three weeks, it was just sitting in the hair and makeup trailer. So the first thing I saw for three weeks every single day was a severed Chace Crawford-with-gills chest. It drove me insane."

Moriarty agreed that the chest was "traumatizing", while Fukuhara couldn't help but comment on how "hairy it was".

The panel also saw the cast address that gravity-defying floating sex scene between Homelander and Stormfront (Aya Cash) in season two, with actor Starr saying that it was difficult to look "sexy" during the scene.

"You could see people on the ground just going, 'What the fuck is he doing? What is going on up there?' And then we kept giggling as well. Me and Aya get on really well, so we kept giggling," he said.

"I don't know what kind of moment that was, but it fucking happened." Which to be fair can be said about most of the craziness that happens on the show.
