Finding the right products for your skin can be fun, yet daunting. I love trying out new serums and moisturizers but at the end of the day, it can be risky, expensive, and time consuming. So, if there is a product out there that’s going to save me money, time, and help my skin, I'm all for it. That's exactly why I tried the new Olay Super Serum.

OlayThe esteemed skincare brand recently released the new serum and many people are deeming it a "miracle product." With five different skincare benefits packed into one bottle priced at $35, I wanted to try it out for myself. But I didn't just try it on my 27-year-old skin. I gave a bottle to my mom who has completely different skin concerns than I do. We both tried it to see if the new "miracle product" lives up to the hype.
My mom is 62 and has pretty great skin (thank you, good genes). But if it’s too pricey or too confusing, she’s not buying. Needless to say, she was excited to try the product from the brand she already likes. Meanwhile, I was excited about the idea of no longer buying multiple products for different purposes since the Super Serum claims to have so many benefits. But is a product like this too good to be true? Let's break it down.
Olay Super Serum claims to have 5 key benefits:
Better Skin Texture
Long Lasting Hydration
Even-looking Skin Tone
Visibly Smoother Lines
Firmer Feeling Skin
It also uses these 5 key ingredients:
Niacinamide (Vitamin B3)
Vitamin C
Collagen Peptide
Vitamin E
Alpha Hydroxy Acid
What does this ingredients mean for my skin?
According to Dr. Rolanda Wilkerson, Senior Beauty Scientist at Olay, each of these ingredients were combined because of how they all work together. Here's how she explained the ingredients:
"The combination of ingredients work together to provide even skin tone efficacy and improved skin texture. Activated niacinamide, aka Vitamin B3, boosts surface cell turnover, evens skin tone and tackles visible discoloration, especially when formulated in Olay's new proprietary low pH formula. Vitamin C fights free radicals on the skin surface and ultimately protects skin from visible damage such as fine lines and uneven skin tone. Collagen peptide supports the skin's natural renewal processes, noticeably improving the skin's appearance. Vitamin E’s ability to soothe and moisturize for softer skin helps defend against surface free radicals caused by pollution and other environmental factors. AHA Lactic Acid is a known exfoliant and humectant, tackling any hyperpigmentation concerns."
How does it perform and compare to other serums?
I’m already using multiple products underneath my moisturizer for my skin to reap all these benefits. But frankly, most of us don’t want to spend the extra time it takes to lather everything on at the end of they day when we just want to get in bed.
At first, I only used the Super Serum during my morning routine. I used about about 3 drops for my whole face and neck and was immediately nervous about the iridescent look of the product. While it comes out iridescent, I rubbed the product together in my hands to warm it up and applied it to my skin. It melted into my skin completely clear and rather smooth. It gave my skin a bit of a glow which I really like. While the glow doesn't last all day, I noticed my skin looking less red after a few days of using it. When I started to use it at night and in the morning like it suggests, my skin was noticeably smoother. I've always had pretty textured skin and naturally red cheeks that sometimes spreads to my entire face. The Super Serum actually did help tame those two issues. I follow up with a moisturizer best for my skin, right now I'm using the First Aid Beauty Intense Hydration Moisturizer. However, the Olay Retinol24 + Peptide Moisturizer has been highly recommended and is next on my list to try!

OlayCompared to other products, the Super Serum doesn't have any harsh smells or leave a sticky residue. Often, some Vitamin C products can dry out my skin or cause even more texture. I didn't notice any of that with the Super Serum and am thinking it's the Niacinamide adding in that extra hydration!
My mom also sports the naturally rosy cheeks, again, thank you, genes. She used the Super Serum each night before going to bed and found it regulated her skin tone, calmed her redness a bit, and overall gave her skin a bit more of a glow than usual.
"Whether your skin suffers from dryness, attracts oil, a combination of both or you don’t have many skincare concerns, the formulation allows for diverse skin types to experience the 5-in-1 benefits," Dr. Wilkerson explained.
After we both used the new serum for more than a month, I would definitely recommend others try out the product. If you're looking to streamline you're skincare routine, or maybe start one, the Olay Super Serum is a great place to start!
