Boo, the "World's Cutest Dog," Dies

According to his owner, he died of a broken heart.

It’s official: The “world’s cutest dog” is no longer with us.

Boo, the incredibly fluffy, impossibly adorable, and somehow immensely famous Pomeranian, has passed away at the age of 12, People reports. According to a statement on Facebook made by Boo’s owner, the tiny little ball of fluff died peacefully in his sleep on January 18 after struggling with heart issues. The statement also noted that Boo’s canine companion, Buddy (another Pom), had passed away a year prior. “We think his heart literally broke when Buddy left us,” the post read. “He hung on and gave us over a year. But it looks like it was his time, and I’m sure it was a most joyous moment for them when they saw each other in heaven.”

After being adopted in 2006, Boo quickly gained notoriety on social media, thanks to a Facebook page created in his honor. (Even Kesha was on board with the soon-to-be-viral IRL teddy bear.)

From there, Boo became the subject of coffee table books, got his very own wall calendar, and even had an array of stuffed animals made in his likeness. The tiny pup even secured a deal with Virgin America in 2012, as the airline’s Official Pet Liaison.

Today, there’s a roster of viral pets to choose from (Grumpy Cat, Bruno the High Maintenance Cat, just to name a couple), but it can be argued that Boo was certainly one of the first furry friends to rise to such fame. RIP little fluff monster. At least we’ll always have the pics.
