After what seems like 12-plus years of trade speculation, Justin Faulk has actually been dealt.

The Hurricanes shipped the blueliner along with a 2020 fifth-round pick to St. Louis on Tuesday for defenseman Joel Edmundson, prospect Dominik Bokk and a 2021 seventh-round pick.

Immediately following the completion of the trade, the Blues inked Faulk to a seven-year, $45.5 million contract extension — an annual average value of $6.5 million.

Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston reported the year-over-year breakdown of Faulk’s extension:

"We are excited to add Justin to our core group for the next eight years. He's a Top-4 defenseman who averages over 22 minutes a game. We're confident he will be a strong addition to our club,” Blues general manager Doug Armstrong wrote in a release.

Faulk, a three-time NHL All-Star, was selected in the second round by the Canes in the 2010 draft. The 27-year-old tallied one goal and seven helpers in 15 playoff games during Carolina’s march to the Eastern Conference final last season.

He ranked second amongst Hurricanes defensemen in 2018-19 with 11 goals and 35 regular-season points.
