Blake Shelton is slowly sharing new details about his proposal to Gwen Stefani, and his most recent interview reveal delves into the weeks leading up to the big day. In an appearance on The Bobby Bones Show, The Voice coach shared where he hid the engagement ring until he could pop the question at the right time.

“To be honest with you—and this is scary—I had the ring in the compartment on my door of my truck for about a week,” Shelton admitted. “I don’t know about you, but stuff falls out of that damn thing on my truck all the time.”

When he was digging for belongings in his car, he “kept thinking, ‘Man, somebody’s gonna hit the jackpot whenever I drop this thing out of my truck,’” he said. “I wanted to keep it there all the time because I didn’t know when I would have the exact, right moment. But thank God, I didn’t lose the ring.”

It’s a good thing Shelton didn’t lose it, because jewelry experts estimate it could be worth up to $300,000. Andrew Brown, the CEO of WP Diamonds told Refinery 29 that Stefani’s ring “appears to be a six or seven-carat radiant diamond ring with trapezoid side stones,” placing the cost of the ring between $250,000 and $300,000.

While the ring was hiding in Shelton’s car, he was figuring out how to propose to his future wife. Apparently, he didn’t have much of a plan ahead of time, other than wanting to be surrounded by family. (Shelton reportedly asked Stefani’s three sons for permission first!)

“The only thing I had planned was that I knew I wanted to do it in Oklahoma while all her kids were there,” Shelton said. “We have a group that we get together on [most holidays] with those two parts of our extended family, and it’s been like that for years. I wanted everybody to be there in the moment.”

“I didn’t want to take her away or do something private away from the kids,” he continued. “I felt like it was important for the kids to be a part of that moment, so that’s what I did. I had the ring for a couple weeks, maybe 2.5 weeks.”

When the time came, Shelton received an obvious “yes” from his girlfriend of five years. She captioned her engagement photo on Instagram, “@blakeshelton yes please!”
