Blake Shelton May Have Taken One of His Jokes Way Too Far on 'The Voice'
Blake Shelton tried to bribe a contestant during The Voice premiere.
Most found his tactic hilarious, but others thought it was a "new low."
It’s only been a day, but we can already tell you the winner of The Voice season 18.
No, it’s not Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton, John Legend, or newcomer Nick Jonas. It’s not one of the four-chair turns like Nelson Cade III, either. The champion of this year’s show is, of course, Snowflake.
That’s right. Snowflake, a perfect little Golden Retriever pup, is our favorite contestant we’ve seen so far. But how, you may ask, could a dog win a human’s singing contest? Let us explain.
Nick was desperately trying to get Tate Brusa on his team, as was longtime veteran Blake. Nick went the extra mile to actually teach Tate a new skill in real time to prove he was the best coach for the job. So Blake upped the ante.
The “Get Ready” singer actually brought out the adorable animal in order to bribe Tate. “Tate I want you to know that if you don’t choose me as your coach, this puppy is going to go straight back to the animal shelter,” Blake said.
Nick, rightfully, said, “What is wrong with you!?” which prompted Blake to continue. “Don’t feel any guilt or anything just because poor Snowflake here…the choice is yours,” he told the young artist.
Most people fully understood that Blake was kidding, calling him the "funniest man on TV." But there were many who thought that using Snowflake was going too far. Some said it was a “dirty move” while others claimed it was “bribing and cheating.”

A few wondered what actually was happening to the puppy. “I’m not a dog person, but even I am concerned about poor Snowflake,” one person wrote. Another asked “Wait! What’s going to happen to the dog!?”
Though it’s unclear who Snowflake really belongs to, both Nick and The Voice’s official account assured that Snowflake is okay.

Blake tweeted, “WOW TATE!!! WOW. That was the last time I saw Snowflake… I remember it like it was yesterday… those puppy dog eyes welling with tears as she got carted away to the shelter…It’s a shame." So Nick and The Voice each sent out a reassurance that Snowflake is “happily eating dog treats.”
