We can’t imagine Blake Shelton being anything but a big teddy bear, can you?

But the country singer hasn’t always been such a nice guy, at least according to himself. In a recent Entertainment Tonight interview, The Voice coach said that he was a little sassier before his relationship with Gwen Stefani.

“I don’t want to remember what I was like before Gwen, actually,” he said. “I was a jerk to everybody... Look how nice I am now!”

While mixing business with pleasure is typically inadvisable, Blake and Gwen have proven they can handle the pressure. Since they started dating, The Voice coaches have managed to have a great working relationship while also staving off tabloid hearsay and internet troll brouhaha—sometimes even leaning into the drama for entertainment sake.

Blake has also become known for his over-the-top, lovey-dovey gushfests both online and in public forums—so it seems like his previously self-admitted “jerk” title has expired.

But it’s not only Gwen who has brought out the best in Blake. The “Hollaback Girl” singer shares the sentiment and in the same interview said, “Blake saved my life, everybody knows that.”

Even fellow coach John Legend has noticed a change in Blake’s demeanor now that Gwen’s around. “I love the energy of them being on the show together. It kind of softens Blake a little bit,” John said.

Let’s hope this swoon-worthy relationship lasts a lifetime!
