Welcome to Heat Check, a (semi)regular dose of much-needed style inspiration culled from the very best celebrity fit pics around.
Let's get one thing straight right off the rip: Just because it's a holiday doesn't mean you're, like, stylistically obligated to wear a themed outfit. Do you show up to all your friends' birthday parties dressed in their favorite color? I hope not. And once that holiday has passed, man, just cut it out. If I see one more pair of star-spangled shorts this summer I'm going to completely lose it. I'm serious. Miss me with that bullshit.
Blake Griffin, on the other hand, gets a pass. Over the long weekend, the Pistons' power forward posted up by the beach in one of the least offensive Independence Day fits I've seen in a minute. You cut those shorts yourself, G? Goddamn. In his artfully-frayed not-quite-daisy-dukes and casually undone shirt (courtesy of Tombolo and its partnership with Save the Children) the former de facto mayor of Lob City couldn't look more the picture of perfectly subdued national pride, with nary a star or stripe in sight. Accented by a crisp pair of AF1s and some well-placed subtle gold accessories, Griffin masterfully alludes to the holiday spirit without compromising his personal style in the process.

And if you're looking for some, ahem, fitspiration (I'm so sorry) this summer, you could do a whole lot worse than copying everything he's doing here and then going on your merry way. You're welcome. All I ask in return is that you please, please, return the themed shorts you bought online at the beginning of the month. Nobody—and I mean nobody—wants to see that. They can stay our little secret.
This, my good people, is how it's done. Happy belated July 4th to Blake Griffin and Blake Griffin only.
