Wine + friends = the weekend. Since you'll probably definitely be sipping on a red, white, or rosé imminently, the only question still up in the air is what bottle you'll be pouring from. We're here to suggest one of these truly excellent Black-owned wine brands. Only 1% of wineries in the U.S. are Black-owned, so you support diversity and equity in the wine industry with every Black-owned wine you buy.

To keep your bar cart well stocked, we've rounded up 20 of the best of the best. From trailblazers like the McBride Sisters, Maison Noir, and Brown Estate to Black woman-owned wines, like Domaine Curry and Love Cork Screw. And then there are the celebrity wine labels, like Jay-Z's Armand De Brignac, Mary J. Blige's Sun Goddess, and Dwyane Wade's Wade Cellars. Every. Single. One. Of these wineries should be on your beverage bucket list—and what's more fun than trying a new wine for the first time, amiright??

The selection of BIPOC-owned wines at your local liquor store can be hit or miss, so you'll probably need to purchase bottles or cases directly from the wine label or through an online alcohol retailer. We'll be shopping the minority-owned section at Total Wine & More, where you can find many of these bottles and have them delivered to your door or set aside for curbside pickup. Time to pour one up in support of Black businesses!

Blended with a diverse range of grape varieties to please all palettes, this splurge-worthy Napa Valley red blend is the perfect bottle to bring to your next family dinner.

Three by Wade Chenin Blanc

Basketball fans, meet your new favorite game night beverage. Wade Cellars wine is co-founded by—you guessed it—basketball legend Dwayne Wade. According to Dwayne, two-thirds of Wade Cellars staff are people of color, proving the celeb-owned wine brand's commitment to diversity and inclusion in the alcohol industry. This refreshing bottle is under $25, so why not give it a try?

Chardonnay California

Flo Wines blends founder and acclaimed jazz musician Marcus Johnson's two passions: music and wine. Get this: He curated a Spotify playlist of his music for your next wine night with this crisp, buttery California Chardonnay. Pair it with a charcuterie board and your night is set!!

2019 Sauvignon Blanc

Wine nights are a whole lot more fun with a bottle of Mary J. Blige's wine brand, Sun Goddess. The Queen of R&B sources from vineyards owned by the Fantinel family in Friuli Venezia Giulia, a region in Italy with some of the best wine-growing conditions in the world.

La Fete du Rosé

If your summer plans don't include jet-setting to St. Tropez this year (same), why not try a rosé from St. Tropez instead?! A far-cheaper alternative to a vacay, this affordable wine has a fruity and floral taste that'll transport you to the French coastal town it hails from.

John Legend Signature Series Cabernet Sauvignon

Fans of celebrity wines should grab a bottle of this berry-forward North Coast Cab from the John Legend Signature Series by LVE—produced in collaboration with Napa Valley’s renowned Raymond Vineyards.

2018 Zinfandel

Brown Estate may be the first (and currently, the only) Black-owned estate winery in the Napa Valley, but it certainly won't be the last, thanks to the strides founding winemakers Coral and David Brown are making in California's wine scene.

This 2018 zinfandel features hints of strawberry, raspberry candy, and....toasted marshmallows??!! Yes, we absolutely will be ordering an entire case.

Chardonnay

Established in 2018 as the sister label of Brown Estate, House of Brown wants to make Black-owned wine easy for everyone to access. This crisp, fruity $20 chardonnay makes an excellent intro to the brand.

Mersecco Blanc de Blanco

Founded by Desiree Noisette, Mermosa is Florida's first Black woman-owned wine brand. Sparkling wines are the company's specialty, so grab this mermaid-inspired Mersecco for your next weekend brunch or birthday celebration. It's got a splash of orange and pineapple juices for a refreshing taste that's not too sweet.

Cabernet Sauvignon California

Longevity Wines was founded in 2008 by the president of the Association of African American Vintners, Phil Long. This full-bodied California Cabernet Sauvignon features notes of plum, cherry, blackberry, and black licorice—and it's only $13, so drink up!

Good Times Good Friends Pinot Grigio

Love Cork Screw is an award-winning, Black woman-owned and -operated wine brand that began in Chicago. For transparency, there's a nutritional label on the back of every bottle, unlike the majority of wine brands.

This crisp apple and pear pinot is ~perfect~ for a sunny spring day—and it's under $15!

Proprietors Blend

In 2006, Okapi founders Dan and Kim Johnson transformed an overgrown walnut orchard into Jungle Love Vineyard. This award-winning Proprietors Blend combines multiple vintage Cabernet and a touch of Petit Verdot for a full-bodied, chocolatey red that's perfect for date night.

Black Girl Magic Rosé

Sisters Robin and Andréa McBride lived 7,000 miles apart before they were united by their aunt in 1999 and bonded over their love of wine. Now, their company is the largest Black-owned wine brand in the United States. (@HBO please make this a docuseries!!)

Ace of Spades Brut Gold Champagne

First founded in 2006, then purchased by Jay-Z in 2014, Armand De Brignac wines ooze upper-echelon taste and Beyoncé-level class (I mean, just look at this gold bottle!!). The Brut Gold Champagne is a staple for the label, and a bunch of rappers shout-out Armand De Brignac in songs.

Iris Zinfandel

Michael Lavelle Wines is a luxury Black-owned wine brand that opened its doors in 2020. The brand, founded by Howard alums, sells a range of wines that'll suit anyone's fancy. The Iris Zinfandel has flavor notes of fresh blackberries, dark cherries, vanilla, and hints of cocoa.

Tropiscato

Earl Stevens, aka rapper E-40, has an eponymous California-based winery that offers everything from crisp whites to rich red blends. But we are really here for the Tropiscato—it's a Moscato blend that has tropical fruits mixed in with the grapes to create a sweet, fruity beverage that's basically vacation in a bottle. FYI: It's best served chilled over ice.

24 Chardonnay

Charles Woodson—an 18-year NFL vet with 65 career interceptions, NBD—also has a love for winemaking. While in Napa Valley for football training, Charles developed an appreciation for the process of making wine and the people who do it. His 24 Chardonnay is a rich, velvety rendition of the classic white with flavor notes of spiced apples, citrus, and biscuits.

The King Path Brut Champagne

French for "King's Highway" or "King's Road," Le Chemin Du Roi offers top-of-the-line champagne fit for a king (OR QUEEN, tyvm!!). The Brut champagne has notes of stone fruit, toasted brioche, bay leaf, and white cherries.

Grapefruit Cocktail Spritz

Canned wine will be your brunch bestie allllll summer long. This option from Cool Cat has a refreshing, tart grapefruit flavor and some bubbles to make things extra fun. Because panicking when you can't find a corkscrew is so yesterday.
