Whether you spend all day on your feet or your biggest treks of the day are between your bedroom, living room and kitchen, you need a pair of shoes that keep you supported, stable and comfortable. If your sneakers are looking a little ratty and last season’s boots are a little worse for wear, now is the time to pick up a new pair — it’s Black Friday, after all.

Not sure where to get started? It’s ok to need a little help, so we asked someone that really knows footwear: a podiatrist. Dr. Polina Zaydenberg, DPM, is based in New York, and she’s dishing on the shoes she thinks are worth the investment (and even a pair she plans on picking up herself.)

Dr. Zaydenberg isn’t the only one that’s a fan of these classic Adidas kicks — they’re Amazon’s No. 1 best-selling running shoe, and have over 25,000 five-star reviews. They’re stylish, come in dozens of colorways, and have a comfortable platform to make every step feel akin to walking on clouds.

“They look really accommodative,” Dr. Zaydenberg shares. “The shank appears sturdy. The toe box is big enough — and stretchy enough — to accommodate metatarsalgia [pain and inflammation in the ball of the foot] and bunion deformities.”

“Ooh, these are cute!” Dr. Zaydenberg gushed. “More importantly, the adjustable lace-up is accommodative for those with midfoot and ankle arthritic changes. It’s also a good pick for those with lower extremity swelling.”

These responsive Brooks sneakers provide a bit of spring in your step, plus they have plenty of cushioning and support. They’re lightweight and breathable, too, thanks to the streamlined mesh exterior.

It’s precisely this mesh that made Dr. Zaydenberg a fan of these sneakers.

“They’re accommodative and stretchy,” she shares. “The platform is good for those with arthritic deformities in the mid-foot area. The heel is also great for those with heel deformities.”

Not only does Dr. Zaydenberg consider these incredibly stylish, but she’s a massive fan of the footbed, too.

“I love that these have an EVA footbed,” she explains. “It’s like a memory foam mattress — it takes away all the pressure from whatever deformities you might have.”

They’re warm, too: A waterproof leather exterior and microfleece lining keeps your tootsies perfectly toasty.

Don’t let the high heel fool you. These are super comfy, thanks to the platform and traction sole. It doesn’t just make them easier to walk in — they’re actually good for your feet, too.

“The fact that there is a platform helps decrease the pressure to the metatarsal area by decreasing the height of the heel,” Dr. Zaydenberh explains. “The leather is soft, accommodative, and stretchy. The elastic side gore doesn’t add any pressure to swollen ankles.”

“They look dressy,” Dr. Zaydenberg gushed. “The adjustable toggle is helpful for those with swollen ankles, and the wedge is a benefit for those with back of heel pain.”
