Blac Chyna Fights Body Shamers by Staying Ahead of the Hate

When it comes to Hollywood, haters gonna hate — but Instagram celeb Blac Chyna, aka Rob Kardashian’s fiancée, is fighting back by getting ahead of all the negativity, especially as it relates to her pregnancy and its effects on her body.

“Like, no lie, my goal is to gain, like, 100 pounds in this pregnancy,” Chyna says in a new Snapchat video, in which we see her eating chips and salsa, hovering over Cornish hens as they brown on the grill, showing her ample behind as she walks, and stepping onto a scale before announcing that she weighed 139 lbs. before her pregnancy — and then, upon seeing her new weight — 165.5 — mock screams. “I’m gonna tear it up, then I’m gonna snap back,” she declares in the video.

Body-shamers have been out in full force ever since Chyna announced her second pregnancy in early May, rudely criticizing the Lashed cosmetics owner for heading out in public in a snug jumpsuit without any makeup on her face. Instagram commenters called her “huge,” “gross,” and “so ugly,” with one actually suggesting she “should get an a** reduction.” Apparently, plastic surgery should be a priority for a woman carrying a child.

But Chyna, who will co-star in a reality show with Kardashian, shot back: “To all you people out there with negative comments and insecure words (obviously because you have nothing else to do but criticize the next), I AM HAVING A BABY! Exactly what do you expect to see?! If I walked out in makeup and heels everyday to be beautiful to your means I WOULD BE MISERABLE AND UNHAPPY which are two vibes I refuse to transfer to my little one.”

Earlier in May, the couple was spotted out in Miami celebrating Chyna’s 28th birthday, proudly chowing down on a burger and fries and also a full-on Cuban feast.

She used Snapchat again last week to showcase her bare and growing belly, and noted that she was too exhausted to put on her makeup in the morning and to post even more Snapchat updates than she’s been doing.

While plenty of other celebrities — including Lady Gaga, Madonna, Demi Lovato, Taylor Swift, and future Chyna sis-in-law Kim Kardashian — have responded beautifully to body-shaming trolls over the years, Chyna’s approach of cutting them off at the pass to beat them to it and be playfully self-deprecating all on her own – thank you very much – has been powerful. It’s a stance that truly resonates with her fans, who in recent weeks, have shot out supportive tweets including, “I just wanna give Blac Chyna a hug,” “Blac Chyna’s body is so cute pregnant,” “Black Chyna is being so open and honest about how her body is changing during pregnancy,” and “Blac Chyna looks stunning.”

“As a model and former exotic dancer, Blac Chyna can’t be a stranger to her body being a subject of public conversation,” noted Refinery 29 on Monday. “That does not mean she’s going to sit back and let people criticize her for gaining weight during her pregnancy with the child of fiancé Rob Kardashian. Instead, she made a series of Snapchat videos showing herself enjoying food and embracing her body’s changes.”

And kudos to Chyna for that, as it’s hard enough for women to be proud of their bodies during normal life — and so much harder during pregnancy. “Pregnancy is always a time of such vulnerability and insecurity for so many women, so it makes these types of comments even more toxic,” Clare Mysko, CEO of the National Eating Disorders Association, told Yahoo Beauty recently. “Women are generally given the message that their physical appearance is somehow connected to their self-worth, and that can be really amplified during pregnancy.”

To quote Chyna’s future sister-in-law Kim – can she live?
