Though “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin passed away 13 years ago, his incredible spirit lives on through his family. Irwin’s daughter, Bindi Irwin, posted a sweet tribute to her father following her recent engagement. The 21-year-old’s heartfelt words spotlight her brother Robert taking on the important role of walking her down the aisle.
On July 24, Bindi shared photos of her engagement to longtime boyfriend, 22-year-old wakeboarder Chandler. Yesterday, she followed up the announcement with a throwback photo of herself, Robert, their late father, and their mother, Terri Irwin.
“Dad, You would be so incredibly proud of Robert,” Bindi wrote alongside the photo. “He has been such an amazing support during this beautiful new life chapter. I know you’d be beaming with pride when the time comes that he walks me down the aisle. I wish you could be here for these moments, but I know that your spirit lives on in us.” Robert responded to the beautiful post with a heart emoji. The post has over 550,000 likes and an outpouring of lovely comments. “You and your brother must have been raised by the most kindest parents,” one user wrote. “It shows in your relationship with your brother. So sweet.”
Steve Irwin passed away in 2006 at age 44 after being struck in the chest by a stingray while shooting a documentary. Bindi was eight years old at the time. The family continues to operate the Australian Zoo, which was founded by Irwin’s parents. Further details Bindi’s wedding have yet to be revealed, but surely, the family will find even more ways to honor her late father.
