After what feels like hundreds of years, Bond fans are finally getting a major step closer to the release of No Time to Die, and it comes in the form of the highly anticipated lead single from Billie Eilish, aptly titled "No Time to Die." The Grammy winner, who's having one hell of a year already, was tapped to write the song along with her brother and frequent collaborator, Finneas. Yesterday afternoon, the singer dropped a thirteen-second preview featuring a piano melody that seems like the perfect intersection of Eilish's style and a classic Bond banger.
Eilish, who was announced last month as the featured artist for No Time to Die, is coming off of a massive Grammys sweep last month. The track from the upcoming 25th Bond film will be her first single of 2020. Though she's one of the youngest artists to ever tackle a theme for the franchise, Eilish's dark aesthetic is a perfect match for 007 and the increasingly dark and dramatic tone of recent Bond films.
For reference though, Eilish was five-years-old when the Daniel Craig's first Bond film came out in 2006, so while the singer may fit the tone, don't be expecting a clear through line from the singles released previous by Sam Smith and Adele. With Eilish's inventive style, the Bond essence may be there, but in a completely original way. No Time to Die will mark the end of Daniel Craig's tenure as James Bond and features performances from Lashanna Lynch and Rami Malek.
