Beyoncé’s Performance Style at Isha Ambani’s Wedding Was a Celebration of Indian Couture

To serenade India’s most powerful newlyweds, the pop superstar chose pieces from two of the nation’s top labels.

Beyoncé’s repertoire is often called upon by newlyweds looking for a first dance song, but rarely does the superstar herself deign to take on the role of wedding singer. This weekend, for the nuptials of Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal, Beyoncé did just that. As the daughter of Mukesh Ambani, India’s richest man, and the CEO of online shopping portal AJIO, Ambani is among the world’s most powerful twenty-somethings and her ceremony brought together celebrities and some of the biggest names in politics and business. With the likes of Hillary Clinton, Arianna Huffington, Nick Jonas, and Priyanka Chopra descended on Udaipur in Rajasthan for multi-day event, the entertainment needed to be top notch. So naturally, Ambani sought out the talents of an icon.

To grace the stage and respect the dress code, Beyoncé opted for an intricate custom gown from New Dehli-based label Kholsla Jani. The red silk organza dress featured detailed gold embroidery, a thigh high slit, and plunging neckline that was accented with a transparent panel. Constructed over the course of six days, it made for a stunning series of Instagram updates. The superstar accessorized the look with nude fishnets and a wealth of jewelry, including a gold tikka headdress and earrings. With her backup dancers in coordinating outfits from the same design team, the overall effect was stunning as she serenaded the crowd with a soulful rendition of “Perfect.”

Beyoncé switched gears and tempo to sing “Crazy in Love” later in the evening, donning a gilded bodysuit by Indian bridal specialist Falguni Shane Peacock. Covered in crystal accents and gold fringe, the diva-worthy piece was taken to the next level with the addition of thigh-high gold boots. Hardly your typical wedding attire, but rather a winning statement from a performer who brought down the house. It was truly the perfect pre-show for one of the most lavish weddings of the year.
