When it comes to beauty (and basically everything else), Beyoncé reigns supreme. The Lion King premiere in London, where she casually met Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, was no exception. Dressed in a marigold Cong Tri gown, she looked every bit the queen she is. Lucky for us, her longtime makeup artist, Sir John, just revealed exactly how he glammed up the 37-year-old 23-time Grammy winner for her big night out.
In a press release, John explained his inspiration for the “Spirit” singer’s incredible look. “Attending the LA premiere and seeing the CGI for the first time was visually such a treat. Nala’s eyes mesmerized me, and I thought, how can I translate this into wearable glam?!”
Well, he succeeded in his mission to translate the magic of the film into “wearable glam” with his new Luminess The Lion King limited edition collection.
And once John saw the gown Beyoncé intended to wear to the London premiere, he knew exactly what makeup vibe he wanted to go for. “If you noticed, the London premiere was my attempt at harnessing the power and sultry essence of a lioness. Not literal in interpretation, however there’s an undeniable feline presence,” he shared.
To create Beyoncé’s striking look, he used Luminess’s Simba and Nala eyes hadows from the Can’t Wait to be Queen Eye shadow Palette ($42) on her lids, adding the King and Pride Rock shades to her crease and the Safari Khaki as a nice transition between the two. Then, John says he applied “various shades from the Kingdom Sculpting Palette ($42)…to define [her] face.” He completed the look with the Trouble Liquid Lipstick ($24) and layered the Pounce Matte Lipstick ($24) on top.
But his makeup application didn’t stop on Queen Bey’s visage. After finishing her face, John also applied the Circle of Life Highlighter to her “décolletage, arms, legs and shoulders—all light-reflective places.”
We’re now one step closer to looking like Beyoncé. Bless.
