Beyoncé Dropped the Song of the Summer While You Were Sleeping

There’s a brand new Beyoncé song, just in time for the summer solstice.

Early Tuesday morning Beyoncé quietly dropped her new single, “Break My Soul,” a dancy, upbeat song which uses a sample of Robin S’s “Show Me Love.”  The single also features Big Freedia on vocals.

Album artwork for the single on streaming platforms shows the number 6 alongside the title, perhaps a hint that “Break My Soul” is the sixth track on the forthcoming album Renaissance, which Beyoncé announced last week will drop on July 29.

Beyoncé also announced the single by sharing an image to Instagram in which the singer wears black opera gloves and is partially obscured behind what looks like textured glass.

After the album announcement last week, British Vogue revealed Queen Bey as their most recent cover star. The profile decried, “Beyoncé is poised for her next evolution,” and the dance beat of her most recent single certainly underscores a new era for the pop superstar.

A new Beyoncé song, an album-release date, and gorgeous portraits from Vogue? In the words of the singer herself, “Bey is back and I’m sleepin’ real good at night.”
