  • Betty White offers one final message to fans in a posthumous Instagram post.

  • “I just want to thank you all for your love and support over the years,” she said in a video posted to Instagram by her former team. “Thank you so much, and stick around!”

  • The star passed away at the age of 99 on December 31, just weeks before her 100th birthday.

In the weeks since Betty White passed away at age 99, countless fans have thanked the legendary actress and comedian for the joy she shared throughout her decades-long career. And in a final message posted to her Instagram account days after what would have been her 100th birthday, White honored those very same people.

“I just want to thank you all for your love and support over the years,” the Golden Girls actress said in a video taken before her death on December 31, but posted on January 22. “Thank you so much, and stick around!”

White had recorded the video to share with fans on her 100th birthday, and her team (including her assistant, Kiersten Mikelas, who now manages her Instagram account) decided to post it as planned.

“When we recorded her special message to fans who attended the movie, we also recorded one that we had planned to put on social media on her birthday,” the post’s caption reads. “She was using the occasion of her 100th birthday to celebrate YOU—her fans. She knew how lucky she was; she felt the love, and she never took it for granted. I think it’s appropriate to post today as a thank [you] from Betty and the animals ❤️.”

The post also celebrated the success of the Betty White Challenge, a social media fundraising effort honoring the late comedian’s tireless advocacy for animal welfare. Fans encouraged each other to donate to local animal shelters and welfare organizations—and at least $12.7 million has been raised so far through Facebook and Instagram alone.

“As we continue to see number[s] coming in from all over the world—it’s just absolutely amazing how much money all of you raised for the animals through #thebettywhitechallenge,” the caption continued. “She could never have imagined such an outpouring of love and would have be so grateful to everyone.”

White died on New Year’s Eve at age 99, six days after suffering a stroke. As she entertained audiences throughout the decades, she also used her platform to care for animals of all kinds. In a 2011 interview, the actress told Katie Couric her secret to a long, happy life: “I’m not preaching, but maybe I learned it from my animal friends: kindness and consideration for somebody besides yourself,” she said. “And I think that keeps you feeling young, I really do.”

Even after her death, Betty White is continuing to make the world a better, kinder place—a fitting legacy for one of the most beloved stars to ever light up the screen.
