Bethenny Frankel Is Refusing to Give Up on Victims of Puerto Rico's Hurricane Maria

Real Housewife Bethenny Frankel has been tireless in the wake of global disaster.

Last week, we reported on how Frankel had chartered more than 10 planes filled with survival goods to the areas of Puerto Rico devastated by Hurricane Maria. During Friday’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Frankel confirmed that the number had quadrupled. The Skinnygirl Cocktails founder told the host that her team had already chartered 40 planes for assistance, with more on the way.

While it hasn’t been easy to fight the aftermath of Maria, Frankel explained why she refuses to give up.

“People were saying ‘You can’t go there, people can’t drink the water,’ Frankel told DeGeneres. “And I’m saying, ‘Well that’s why I have to.’”

“I became motivated, and I could do it, and I was watching change,” she explained. “And then someone would say ‘I see what you’re doing—I have a plane’ and then I’d start talking to people: ‘Don’t call me if you don’t have a plane!’” Original motto, if you ask us. Frankel’s connected to the devastation on a personal level and continues to be amazed by the ways the tragedy has united unlikely forces.

“It just became a movement. And then these people in chat rooms … 24/7 I have people that I would die for, that would kill for me, that I’ve met once.

“It’s literally like killing every roach in Manhattan,” Frankel said of the immensity of the situation. “People are dying. This is not a joke. This is not the blame game. People get in my Twitter to fight over whose fault it is—it doesn’t matter. There’s a mess; we have to clean it up.

Both Frankel and DeGeneres went on to stress the importance of donating time and money to the cause. The talk show host even her guest by presenting her with a check from Cheerios for $54,000—enough to charter three planes.
