As busy as our favorite athletes are during the season, many find time to work on brand ventures, including some in the world of wine and spirits. Some of the most famous sports figures in the world have launched and become the face of alcohol companies. We’re talking everyone from Michael Jordan and Travis Kelce to Alex Morgan and LeBron James.

To see if they lived up to the hype, we enlisted our team of Delish editors and wine and spirits enthusiasts to taste a selection athletes' alcohol brands, including mezcal, bourbon, canned cocktails, and tequila. Ready to see how the brands scored? Read on to find out what our taste-testers thought of each one and to shop them for all your upcoming parties. Cheers!

Tequila Añejo

NBA legend Michael Jordan is a five-time MVP, and his Cincoro tequila brand just so happens to have five varieties in honor of His Airness. We tried the Cincoro añejo, and we couldn't stop cheering about its “smooth and sweet” profile with caramel flavors.

While some might say it would be a top contender for the finals, thanks to being “really good” straight up, others thought it would taste better in a marg. All in all, “someone buying for MJ alone won't be disappointed,” one tester added.

Organic Blanco Tequila

If you didn’t already know, Travis Kelce has backed and been a face of the tequila brand Casa Azul since 2023. While our team thought that the tequila blanco had a great aroma and an impressive, modern blue packaging, we weren’t as thrilled with the spirit’s sugary after-taste. One reviewer said it tasted like “pure burning sugar” and “preservatives,” while others agreed that it evoked “nostalgia”—the kind that brought them back to their early drinking days.

But! Honorable mention to the brand's tequila sodas, which Taylor Swift was seen drinking at a Kansas City Chiefs game (she had the lime flavor). Again, some testers thought they were “too sweet” from the Stevia and other added sugars, but they thought they were still “smooth” and “easy to drink.”

Three by Wade California Cabernet Sauvignon 2020

NBA champion Dwyane Wade is also an established player in the wine industry. He launched his Wade Cellars wine label over 10 years ago, starting with a Cabernet Sauvignon.

We tried his latest varietal, the Three by Wade California Cabernet Sauvignon 2020, which our team thought was “delicious.” One tester added that it was “drinkable, not too dry, and not too sweet.” For a tester who noted that they personally don’t like reds, they thought this one “goes down easily” and has a “nice flavor” from fruits like plums and blackberries.

Still need convincing? The team consensus what that this is “very true to a classic Cab.”

Multi-Pack Tequila Seltzer

A favorite among our taste-testers, Volley is a tequila seltzer brand co-owned by soccer star Alex Morgan. It's is made with just three ingredients: Organic juice, sparkling water, and 100 percent agave tequila. We thought the cans were “beautiful” and had a “great experience flipping” them, per the instructions on how to properly mix the drink before cracking it open.

We tried each flavor from the variety pack (zesty lime, sharp grapefruit, tropical mango, and spicy ginger), and our testers were impressed by each of them. One reviewer said that the “fruit flavor isn’t too far off from the real thing” and that it’s the “closest canned seltzer to a legit cocktail.” The only overall complaint was that it was “too flat” in comparison to the fizzy finish of a typical bubbly seltzer.

Kentucky Straight Bourbon

Stephen Curry launched Gentleman's Cut Kentucky Straight Bourbon back in 2023. He describes its profile as being balanced and polished on the palate with aromas of honey, butterscotch, dried orange peel, hazelnut, toffee, and spice box.

As for what our testers had to say? While they said the bourbon tasted smooth, they were hoping for a better finish and more bite. They liked the flavor, though. “I can taste the honey, [it’s] very present,” one reviewer shared, while another added that it was “smokey” and had a “nice mouth feel.”

Curry shoots, he scores!

1707 Mezcal Artesanal

Lobos 1707 is a LeBron James-backed spirits brand, and we couldn’t help but give the King a royal stamp of approval. We tested the Lobos 1707 Mezcal Artesanal, and liked the Espadín agave drink's "smokey" scent and "delish" taste that's "great for sipping." One tester did share that they thought it tasted better with a lemon-lime sparkling water for a mixed cocktail instead of straight up. However, they gave it bonus points for its clean finish.

Final verdict: Smooth like King James himself.
