The Best Workplaces for Millennials

Fortune has published its annual ranking of the 100 Best Workplaces for Millennials, and this year four travel industry companies have been named among the top employers that appeal to the largest generation in the U.S. workforce.

Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants earns placement at No. 11, Marriott International is No. 14, online travel agency Expedia comes in at No. 60, and hotel owner Concord Hospitality appears at No. 81. Ultimate Software took the top spot at No. 1.

The list is compiled by the culture experts at Great Place to Work, a San Francisco-based consulting firm that is Fortune’s longtime partner for its workplace rankings. Nearly 400,000 employees were surveyed about their work experience, including respect and fairness, opportunities for meaningful work, and their manager’s competence. The companies were ranked based on those results, along with a comparison to similar responses from other generations of employees at each organization as well as the consistency of their experience across a diverse group of workers.

Responding to the survey, one Millennial employee wrote: “Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants is one of the most inclusive companies I have ever had the pleasure of working for. As a company, we have been on the front lines of LGBTQ rights, feminism in the workplace, and equality for all. I also love that I am given the opportunity to sign up for any number of different courses in our Kimpton University every month… As a 26-year-old, all I can say is that I hope to still be working at Kimpton when I’m 62.”

A Marriott employee summed up the work experience: “The company has been able to stay true to its core values over the years. Employees at any level of the organization are aware of the company’s culture and core values. When asked, Bill Marriott would often acknowledge that the key to his success was the employees. All these years later, the simple concept of ‘take care of associates and they’ll take care of the customers,’ still rings true. There is flexibility and a focus on the balance of work and home life that you do not typically find in large corporations.”

And according to a Millennial staff member at Expedia, “employees are genuinely passionate about the intersection of travel and technology, and strive to build the best product possible. While employee satisfaction may vary from team to team, the overall sense is that people love working here. The company is small enough that each employee feels needed and important, but also big enough to offer all the resources necessary to get a job done.”
