Amal and George Clooney hosted their first-ever Albie Awards last night in New York City.

The event, hosted by the couple's Clooney Foundation, was held at the historic New York Public Library, and guests included the pair's Hollywood friends—Julia Roberts, Drew Barrymore, Cindy Crawford—as well as the moment's hottest entertainment, arts, business, journalism, and fashion personalities.

The human rights lawyer may have been the best dressed of the night, a she was photographed walking the red carpet in a gold chandelier fringe Versace gown with thick straps. On her arm, husband George looked dapper in a black tuxedo.

The Albie Awards—named after Justice Albie Sachs, who tirelessly worked to end apartheid in South Africa—are meant to honor "defenders of justice" who face great risks for what they do.

"We believe that justice must be waged—it doesn’t just happen. So when journalists are locked up just for doing their job, we try to get them out of prison. When young girls are denied the right to study, work, or marry when they want, we help them fight for their rights through the courts. When minorities are targeted for genocide, we help trigger trials against the perpetrators," the Clooneys wrote on their Clooney Foundation for Justice website. "The Albie Awards add a new dimension to our work at CFJ: they are a way to shine a protective light on the many courageous individuals who, at great personal risk, have devoted their lives to justice."
