The longer bangs on Clarke's cut make it a great option for someone who wants to ease their way into a short style—or grow out the one they already have. The loose waves on one side with straight, tucked-back strands on the other is a work of art.
During the past year, brides across the country have been forced to postpone their weddings indefinitely. Refinery29 Video Producer Alexa Thompson is one of them. After rescheduling twice in light of the pandemic, Thompson and her fiancé Tyler have landed on a tentative wedding date of November 2021, and they’re finally sending out official Save The Dates. For the bride-to-be, the excitement is coupled with anxiety, because she hasn’t had her hair cut or colored in over 13 months and feels like a “bit of a hot mess.” “I don’t look at myself in the mirror anymore — I’ve really let my confidence slip,” Thompson explains. Now, ahead of her big engagement photoshoot, she’s ready for her twice-postponed bridal makeover. Thompson’s vision for her hairstyle — realized through many a Pinterest board — is to keep her dirty-blonde hair long, but “level it up” with bleach-blonde highlights and face-framing layers to accentuate her blue eyes and high cheekbones. For her appointment, she heads to Santa Monica’s Salty Mane Studio, where she meets owner and seasoned colorist Liana Mia. “Our specialty is long, beachy, effortless hair — and we do a lot of blondes,” Mia explains introducing Thompson to her bright and airy studio. With a mirrored aesthetic, the two get to work on Thompson’s transformation. Mia takes her time, trimming, shampooing, lightening, and toning Thompson’s hair. She uses Olaplex bond-building treatments in between foils to protect it from bleach breakage. Then, because Thompson has a special-occasion photoshoot, Mia grabs a 1.25-inch curling iron and styles the freshly-blonde hair into loose waves, then weaves the front pieces into a delicate boho braid before sending Thompson to meet her husband-to-be on the beach. “Before I show anyone my new look, I’m so excited to show Tyler today on the beach — I cannot wait to see his reaction,” Thompson exclaims, adding that her new hair has boosted her confidence tenfold. “I highly recommend getting your hair done this spring, especially if you’re a bride planning your wedding,” she continues. “It really does give you self care and makes you feel like you can take on anything — even wedding planning during Covid.” Like what you see? Carrie Underwood wowed at last night’s American Country Music Awards. While the country star did not receive any nominations this year, her live performance — a gospel medley duet with CeCe Winans — was a highlight from the night. Another talking point in today’s news? Underwood’s ACM Awards ensemble: a white Grecian gown, and waist-grazing, platinum hair extensions. For the performance, the singer looked like a glittering vision sent down from above just to give us summer hair inspiration. Underwood wore a sparkling champagne-colored gown, but it was her hair that stole the stage. Thanks to the expert styling of Melissa Schleicher, Underwood’s blonde strands were styled in a center-parted, cascading blowout with just the right amount of wavy texture. Her makeup, also done by Schleicher, complemented the look with a smoky eye and a glossy, peach-toned lip. Whether your hair is already long or, like the majority of celebrities, you plan to go the extension or weave route to achieve the look, the end result is nothing short of high glamour. Opting for a wig or a weave is a great way to give yourself a quick makeover. There are a lot of options out there online, but luckily, there are some pretty great guides to point you in the right direction. For a look like Underwood’s, it’s about quality and quantity. This isn’t the kind of style you achieve with just a couple of clip-ins. It would require some strategic planning, hence our complete awe and respect for people like Schleicher who can make the rows of hidden hair look seamless. For now, we will be rewatching Underwood’s performance and looking online for extensions that could help us reach that level of just-beamed-down-from-heaven style. Like what you see? If you have thick hair or a hair color that's not naturally light blonde, then you probably have had close encounters with peach fuzz, aka the teeny hairs that linger on your upper lip, cheeks, and other areas of your face. While you could just leave your peach fuzz and rock it, you might prefer a smoother feel. Unfortunately, trying to remove facial hair with chemical bleaches and painful waxes can make the whole hair removal process tiring.

After you’ve picked out your braided style and you’ve secured that highly coveted Saturday AM appointment, there’s still one last thing you have to take care of: choosing your braiding hair. Most braiding hair brands use synthetic hair, which means the hair is made up of man-made fibers instead of real human hair. You can use human hair to braid—and certain looks, like human-hair box braids, require it—but it’s high-key expensive and not necessary for most styles.
