William: I just heard an interview with Adm. (Ret.) William McRaven. His claim is the the US military is great and the US as a nation of business leaders, innovators, scholars, and the like is because of our values. For example, by and large we have stuck to values as expressed by Jefferson in this statement: “We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness….” Bill Taylor comes out of a tradition that starts with American values and strives to see them fulfilled as the best way to ensure himself and we as a nation success. People who attack him before hearing him out are departing from those values. In the long run, abandoning core American values will wreck us internally as we deal with one another and externally as we make our way through the community of nations. I sincerely hope that as Mr. Taylor makes his presentation and responds to questions, those questioning him will do so in good faith, trying to find the truth and not use him for short-sighted tribal gain.
